AED Grants & Funding — Helping Your Community Get a Defibrillator
Securing an AED for your organisation doesn’t have to strain your budget. Various grants and funding opportunities exist to help Australian communities, schools, sporting clubs, and businesses invest in life-saving defibrillation equipment.
Where to Find AED Grants
| Source | Examples |
|---|---|
| Government programs | Local, State and Federal community grants; small business development grants; workplace health and safety improvement grants |
| Community & corporate support | Service clubs (Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis); sports and recreation club grant programs; local business sponsorship; community foundation grants |
| Industry-specific programs | Educational institution safety grants; healthcare facility improvement funds; tourism and hospitality safety initiatives |
The following national programs are worth exploring. Note that grant rounds open and close throughout the year — check each site for current availability:
- Westpac Foundation — search “community grants” on their site for current rounds
- Community Grants — Commonwealth Bank
- Australian Communities Foundation — visit their Funding Platform for current opportunities
- The Grants Hub — subscription service aggregating available grants
- Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program
With more than 36 years in paramedicine, our team regularly receives enquiries about grant programs that promise significant AED discounts. Many so-called grants turn out to be nothing more than a standard discount off the recommended retail price — dressed up as community funding.
Red flags to watch for:
- Organisations offering “grants” that are simply discounts off inflated retail prices
- Programs requiring upfront payments for promised future discounts
- Limited or no ongoing support or service commitments
- Unclear terms about what the “grant” actually provides
Questions to ask any grant provider:
- What does the grant money actually cover?
- Are there any upfront costs or ongoing fees?
- Will the organisation provide training and ongoing support?
- What happens if the equipment needs servicing or replacement?
- Can you speak with previous grant recipients?
If they’re offering a genuine grant, you should not be paying anything upfront to receive it. A defibrillator is a critical piece of medical equipment — do your homework before committing.
